As I’ve mentioned in a few previous blog post, I spent the last week in New York. I still have some blog posts coming up that will cover some of the things I did and places that I went to in more detail, but in this post I wanted to share everything that I did in that amazing city day by day, since it may be helpful to someone who is planning to visit New York.
Monday, 8th of January
The journey began. Everyone who was going to New York met up near the university in Nottingham and was taken to Heathrow airport. We had some spare time until the flight so we spent it by chilling at the airport.
We arrived in New York only around midnight so didn’t do much except from moving in to Hotel Wolcott and going to the nearest McDonald’s to get some snacks.
Tuesday, 9th of January
We woke up quite early since we were sooo excited to start exploring New York. We got ready and grabbed breakfast at Dunkin Donuts cause it was just across the street from where the hotel that we were staying in was situated.
After wandering around the streets for a bit, we went to Top of the Rock which is an observatory deck in the Rockefeller centre. It was quite pricey to get in but totally worth it because you get to see the city from up above. The view is absolutely stunning.
After taking numerous pictures of each other and the city we headed to 5th avenue to take a look at window displays of designer stores (blog post about that).
Then we headed to the Central Park. We were lucky enough to visit New York when there was snow so it truly felt like a dream.
Wednesday, 10th of January
First thing we did on Wednesday was going to the Museum of Modern Art (blog post). After looking at amazing artwork for several hours we were starving so headed towards Times Square to find a cute place to have lunch in.
Since we didn’t want to eat at a place that can be found in the UK, we were lucky enough to cross a restaurant called Planet Hollywood. It felt like a really American place and the burgers that were really delicious.
After that we headed to Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (blog post on that coming this week). We ended the day by walking along the riverside, chatting and exploring the Chelsea market but sadly both my camera and phone died so I wasn’t able to take any more pictures.
Thursday, 11th of January
On Thursday we went to Brooklyn. It for sure has a totally different vibe than Manhattan – it is way less busy and crowded. When the sun was setting we headed towards Brooklyn bridge and walked our way back to the hotel (of course after taking thousands of pictures).
After staying and chilling at the hotel for a bit, we went to Times Square. It honestly looks insane at night. We were just standing there and admiring all the lights probably longer that an hour.
Friday, 12th of January
We started our morning by visiting Cha Cha Matcha. Since I’m a big lover of everything matcha I got a matcha latte and a matcha croissant which honestly was sooo good.
Then we went to the MET. The building looks amazing both inside and out and the gallery is h u g e. You would probably need two days to look at everything.
After walking so much during previous days our feet were so sore that we couldn’t do much that day. We stayed at the hotel the rest of the afternoon and went to town for dinner later but that’s pretty much it.
Saturday, 13th of January
On Saturday we basically spent the whole day shopping and wandering around the streets. We headed to the airport at around 5 pm and flew back to England.
All in all, I honestly fell in love with New York. It’s such an amazing city and I hope to come back there in my nearest future because there’s still so much I want to do and see. 5 days in a city like New York is not enough, especially because one’s energy is limited and some days we wanted to do and see more but couldn’t ’cause we were exhausted.
